Imagine that you and your children are in an abusive household. You are ready to divorce your husband and refuse to go back to that violent household. But you have nowhere to go because financially, you are not ready to be on your own. Nearly every existing Transitional Living Program in El Paso, Texas refuses boys over the age of 12 into their facilities. You have two sons that meet that description. You can go back to your husband or perhaps you can live with a friend or relative, but a Transitional Living Program could make a difference and help change your life.

The Center Against Family Violence’s (CAFV) Transitional Living Program allows you to be safe while you become self-sufficient and allows you to keep your boys with you. CAFV believes that the system should not be dividing families while supporting women who want to leave a violent spouse and start a new life with their children.

Theresa has five children—two girls and three boys— ages, 6, 14 and 15. They have a place to stay and be safe and get their lives back together. The CAFV started its own Transitional Living Center to ensure that there are opportunities available for women such as Theresa and their children.
